Value of Wisdom
March 13th, 2008The bible tells us to lay ourselves treasures in heaven where neither rust or moth destroy or thieves break in and steal. For good reason, if you put your hopes, dreams and desires into worldly materials to fullfill your life, when they are taken from you, you have nothing to grab onto. When people hit a bottom in their life, often drugs, alcohol and other things are used to bandage our stress and aches from deep within our soul. We need to keep our focus on the Life source, Jesus Christ. Hunger and thirst after the things of God in which true joy, peace, patience, kindness come from. Wisdom is something we all need A LOT of. Wisdom from God can help us discern and make right choices that would be pleasing and glorifying to the Lord. The bible has much to say about wisdom.
Wisdom from above: James 3:17 – “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits without partiality and without hypocrisy.”
The fruits of “true” wisdom are identified as pure, peaceable, gentle etc.
Wisdom of the world: 1 Corinthians 3:18-19 – “Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.”
We often do not like to admit we are wrong in things, but get use it because it is necessary for repentance which should be an active part of our walk with God. First we have instruction to become a fool that we may become wise. We need to deprogram what the world has programmed into us! Now is the time to start building on the foundation of TRUTH which is Christ Jesus who is the Word, the Way the Truth and the Life!
Growing up we are constantly being fed other peoples ideas of life and what brings happiness and peace, much of this gradually gets into our heads and can deceive us unless we know “truth”. Wouldn’t you much rather know the truth than a lie? Wouldn’t you rather know what can really fix a problem instead of somebodies idea that may patch a hole instead of seal it? In this case our soul. Our soul can be weighed down by our sins and yet we think we are just going through tough times, while we seek temporary happiness through money, material things, selfish desires and ambitions which cannot fix a problem, they only satisfy the lusts of the flesh. Lets get deep into the heart of the matter, God’s wisdom can help.
Qualities of God’s wisdom
Wisdom has many qualities that are described as more valueable than anything you can obtain.
Proverbs 24:13-14 - “My son eat honey because it is good, and the honeycomb which is sweet to the taste, so shall the knowledge of wisdom be to your soul.”
Proverbs 3:13 - “Happy is a man who finds wisdom and the man who gains understanding, for her proceeds are better than the profits of silver and her gain than fine gold, she is more precious than rubies and all the things you may desire cannot compare with her.”
This passage of scripture is very cool as we all know in our worldly understanding how valueable precious metals and rubies are to the world. This is a good example of the verse that says “do not lay up treasures on earth where rust and moth destroy and thieves break in and steal, but lay up treasures in heaven where neither rust of moth destroy or thieves break in and steal.” My friends, God’s wisdom is definitely a treasure from heaven! Desire it! Nobody can take it away from you.
If you take God’s word as absolute truth as I do, then the verses above should be exciting to you because you are grabbing a hold of a truth. Wisdom is greater than ALL things you may desire. Stop and think about that for a minute, really meditate on this and try to comprehend the magnitude of what is being stated in the Word.
Proverbs 3:17 “Her ways are ways of pleasantness and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her”
How to find God’s wisdom: Try asking!
The bible says in James 1:5-6 says “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.”
Paul writes “no longer be conformed to the patterns of the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” Our mind needs to be renewed before transformation takes place. The first step is coming before the Lord and acknowledging our anxieties, worries and other sins that are getting in the way of our relationship with God and confess them before Him. Seek Him in the Word daily. The Word of God is Life and Truth. It is our spiritual food. You don’t starve your body, so don’t starve your spirit.
Proverbs 1:7 – “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”
Proverbs 8:13 “The fear of the Lord is to hate evil”
Trust in the Lord with all your heart. The benefits of God’s wisdom is to valuable to pass up. I sincerely pray you will be brave enough to ask, knowing also that it may be painful, but the end result will be priceless. You cannot put a price on having peace and trust in the Lord that will sustain you in times that you really need to draw on it. This is no temporary band aid which worldly wisdom mirrors, this is the cure itself. Memorize scripture, fear the Lord, pray and seek Him and His rich mercy and grace will rain down upon you with the peace that passes all understanding.
God bless!
